Jonas Kloeckner
I am a research scientist with a background in mining engineering, developing modern methods and algorithms for spatial data integration over different scales, uncertainty quantification of subsurface systems, and decision analysis.
The years working on those topics and witnessing the inauguration of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability made me rethink the purpose of what I do. It is challenging because we live on a planet with a growing population, which requires an increasing amount of resources under critical constraints. Especially because we are fast running out of time to solve our global climate crisis.
We must act with urgency and ambition. My goal in the Earth resources forecasting field (from exploration, evaluation, and development) is to rely on disruptive decision-making processes that properly address the vast uncertainties with the primary goal of mitigating environmental impact.
