Kobold Metals CEO & Co-Founder

Kurt is the Co-Founder and CEO of KoBold Metals and currently serves as Chair of the Mineral-X Advisory Council at Stanford University. At KoBold, he leads an AI-powered mineral exploration company that integrates cutting-edge geoscience with advanced data science to accelerate the discovery of critical materials for the energy transition. With active exploration across ~60 properties on four continents—including lithium, copper, cobalt, and nickel—and the development of the Mingomba project into a world-class mine, KoBold is redefining how mineral resources are identified and developed. The company collaborates with major industry partners such as BHP and Rio Tinto.

Kurt’s leadership in Mineral-X reflects his commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of geoscience, data science, and sustainability, advancing innovations that aim to secure the raw materials essential for a decarbonized future.

Before KoBold, Kurt founded ventures in carbon sequestration, enhanced oil recovery, and natural gas acquisitions. His earlier career included roles in private equity and strategy consulting at Bain & Company. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Stanford and was a KAUST Research Fellow at MIT. Kurt holds a B.A. in physics from the Claremont Colleges and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and earth science from Harvard University.
