New postdoctoral fellowship: Geophysics for energy transition metals

The postdoctoral researcher will develop advanced geophysical techniques to accelerate the exploration and discovery of energy transition minerals.

Stanford Mineral-X is offering another postdoctoral fellowship on Geophysics at Stanford University. The postdoctoral researcher will develop advanced geophysical techniques to accelerate the exploration and discovery of energy transition minerals. The researcher will collaborate closely with both academic and industrial research partners.

Mineral-X offers competitive postdoctoral salaries, plus sponsored travels to international conferences and meetings. In addition, the fellowship provides certain medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage through Stanford's benefits provisions for postdoctoral scholars.

Qualifications

We are seeking qualified candidates who are motivated to promote mineral exploration for the global energy transition. A successful candidate should have the following:

  • Demonstrated skills in using data-scientific/machine learning techniques involving geophysical data, such as airborne geophysics and remote sensing.

  • Excellent skills in solving geophysical forward modeling and inverse problems.

  • Demonstrated programming skills in Python or similar languages (e.g. Julia), and familiar with 1-2 geophysical tools (i.e. SimPEG).

  • Excellent communication skills and industrial collaboration experiences are desired.

  • Being a quick learner with demonstrated collaborative skills to work in high-energy interdisciplinary teams, and having proven presentation and writing skills are essential.

  • Completion of Ph.D. degree within the last three years and no later than January 1, 2024 (we cannot consider candidates who are defending in 2024).

Evaluation Criteria

  • Ph.D. in Geophysics, Geosciences, or other geophysics-related fields.

  • Research excellence as demonstrated through publications.

  • Quality of research papers (1-2 sample papers) – either published or working papers

  • Experience with real, large geophysical datasets, data wrangling, and forward modeling.

How to apply

For full consideration, send a complete application in a single PDF to Prof. Jef Caers (jcaers@stanford.edu) and copy to Dr. David Zhen Yin  (yinzhen@stanford.edu) with the subject line: “Mineral-X Geophysics Postdoc Fellowship”. Complete applications will include:

  • Cover letter explaining your interest in becoming a postdoc with the respective research at Mineral-X (500 words max).

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Description of your dissertation research and broader research agenda (1 page)

  • One representative writing sample (published or unpublished)

  • List of three reference contacts

Application deadline: December 15, 2023
